365 Days of Jazz Hands - Day 98

MONDAY, APRIL 8th, 2013

If brain convincingly deceives owner of said brain that body is falling out of bed, regardless of location on bed without being in the act of an actual fall, what other deceptive capabilities might this brain have?

Should body ever really trust brain?

This is not brain-in-vat trollyology nor is it shadow puppet theater.

Virtually everyone has fallen out of bed without really falling out of bed at some point in time in their life.  This strange, sometimes surreal experience is called "Hypnogogia" and signifies sleep deprivation or possibly an anxiety weighing down the psyche.  The point is that your brain is tricking you into thinking something that is not actually occurring.  Hypnogogia is deception and is a rally cry to question all perception.

I once spoke to a man who gave his two cents worth on perception.  This man's claim was that all reality is subject to interpretation and that no two people see the same thing the same way.  This perspective from a man who worked extremely hard to avoid whirlpools forming in the center of his tiled kitchen floor, sucking up brooms and other cleaning supplies he'd throw into, testing the level of danger.  This was not a case of Hypnogogia, nor was it a response to a strong hatred for cleaning the kitchen.  His malady was schizophrenia and is commonly considered to be the breakdown of thought...however, it may be more accurate to be considered the breakdown in logical thought, or the brain's immense ability and desire to deceive the body.  Everyone has a mental illness, everyone has the potential to be tricked by their own brain.  We must all be skeptical of even ourselves.  As this man, afflicted with the breakdown in logical thought, stated: regardless of your personal experiences, true madness is allowing deception to dictate your life.  This man, diagnosed with schizophrenia, is more sane that most undiagnosed people I know.

If you are reading this post, I will take a leap of faith that you have also read the post that suggests unquestioned faith is shallow, so it stands to reason that if you can not question yourself and your perceptions, how can you truly believe in yourself?

I will also take a leap of faith that you take a leap of faith that I deploy Jazz Hands on a daily basis to fulfill my new year's resolution promise to do so...feel free to question it, I suppose I'd do the same.  Imagine in your deceptive brain, me deploying Jazz Hands while Family Dog does his morning business...and decide for yourself if it really happened or not.

Today's Jazz Hands fell out of bed.  I think.  Day ninety-eight complete.
