365 Days of Jazz Hands - Day 187

SATURDAY, JULY 6th, 2013

On one hand, reckless abandon takes a bit of courage.  On the other, it's...well...reckless.  Running around with a box over your head, blinded by stupidity (fun, yes...but dumb nonetheless), is no way to go about life.  It very well may result in running into walls, after all.

The trick is understanding when and why to throw caution to the wind.  As strange as it may sound, one should exercise discretion, caution even, while throwing caution to the wind.  We all run around with a box on our head, rendering ourselves completely blind from time to time, whether there's an actual box on our head or not.  Yes, finding the ugliest most comfortable chair in the world is worth untold hardships, trials and tribulations.  Worth every broken obstacle, drop of blood and headache.  However, there's something to be said for having your eyes open to the world as well.  And not inducing headaches.  Or spilling blood.  Or breaking obstacles in your path.  The trick is understanding what a necessary risk is and what is not.  If you can win with your eyes wide open, why do it with a box on your head?  Besides the obvious fun and ridiculous amounts of entertainment value, that is.

Are these contradictions hypocrisy, or balanced perspective?  Today I choose the latter, but tomorrow I may disagree with myself.

Today I will keep things close to the vest...only exercising the proper amounts of risk on an as needed basis.  I will hand jazz in the safe, quiet confines of isolation, unless deployment in a public forum is absolutely called for...and even then, they'll be done with a fair amount of reserve.

Today's Jazz Hands, in other words, are laying low.

Day one-hundred and eighty-seven complete.
